Raising joy: Micro-interventions for boosting joy

Today I am grateful for attending a session offered by SickKids Center for Community Mental Health titled "Raising joy: Micro-interventions for boosting joy"The session was hosted and coordinated by Alice Wright and facilitated by Dr. Ellen Choi. I appreciate and recognize the significance of today's session for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • The session was proposed virtually, highly convenient to join, no need to travel, take TTC or formally dressed up. You just need to check internet connectivity
  • The session was positively interactive and engaging with a variety of prompts, breakout rooms reflection, welcome exercise, questionnaires, reflection activities, gratitude call and singing a song. I was hooked and enjoying the theme of the session
  • Today's notion and learning from the session regarding raising joy-micro-interventions for boosting joy and session commenced with a question such as:

    • What made you bring here today? People shared their thoughts and perspectives
    • Welcome exercise by Alicia Rodriguez. She initiated with a breathing exercise, stretches and body movements
    • Rules of engagement were discussed such as enjoyment before the caution, all feelings are welcome, everyone deserves to be joyful and if you can't talk, can leave breakout room
    • What does life look like on step 10 or perfect 10? Reflected on this question in the breakout room
    • What emotions did you experience on step 10 or perfect 10? Attendees shared their views and thoughts
    • How can you relate that emotion to the physical body? People share their thinking
      • What is joy?
    • 50 shades of joy
    • Neurological expression of joy
    • Proposal vs Defensive network
      • Barriers to joy
    • Worry, stress, anger and sadness liked with it
    • Social media and news
    • Affiliative joy
      • Micro - Interventions
    • Share one gratitude, one desire and one bragging
    • Music therapy
    • Singing stimulates the vagus nerve
    • Jen Hui (singing coach) joined the session and everyone sing along
    • Expressing gratitude. Someone voluntarily called her coworker for expressing gratitude

  • This is my incredible journey with SickKids CCMH, I learned the science behind joy and happiness. Find sessions, training, webinars or lectures that soothes your personal, social and professional needs is the thought of the day
