Parent Council - TDSB

Today I am grateful for and appreciate for serving the parent council in the capacity of Co-Chair of Valley Park Middle School (VPMS) for this academic year. The parent council of every school is to serve the parent community and bridge between parents, school, trustee, school board and superintendent. This is an executive position, however, having multiple layers to harmonize with the system. Every school has a parent council and the provision to engage with the council, you must be a parent of the child who is attending school. I comprehend and recognize its significance for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • The parent council is a great way to engage with the school and the system. It is the higher engagement process and serves the parent community. The parent council is meant to represent parents, their voices, concerns and affairs
  • The parent council is appreciated and acknowledged by the board in a variety of capacities and capabilities. Board offers a variety of facilities to the parent council such as email address, zoom, messenger and any other medium of communication with the parent community
  • The parent council has a small budget and allowance to focus on engagement and offer workshops, training, webinars and session to the parent community
  • The parent council is elected every year with the start of the school and runs throughout the year. You may find exact parent council engagement while googling the concept. I am satisfied with the parent council and happy to serve the parent community
