Flemo Farmer's Market

Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of Flemo Farmer's Market at 150 Grenoble Drive, Toronto. Flemo Farm is a half-acre urban farm in Felmingdon Park. Flemo Farm is a collaboration between the Flemingdon Health Centre and Foodshare Toronto with support from the city of Toronto and primary funding from the Weston Family Foundation. Flemo Farmer's Market has been held every Saturday, July 24 - October 30, 2021.  I recognize and comprehend the value of Flemo Farmer's Market for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Flemo Farmer's Market is a community-developed and community-owned project and I am truly blessed to reside in the Flemingdon community
  • Today I toured Flemo Farmer's Market with my kids in the morning. The weather was pleasant and cloudy. We mindfully walked and talked towards the market. We passed the green field and I could sense the enthusiasm and excitement of my children
  • Upon arrival, we were welcomed and greeted by some volunteers and then approached the front desk. As a token of appreciation and a warm entree, everyone received free organic garlic with a bag (I received 3 bulbs of garlic)
  • Vegetables and fruits were organic and remarkably fresh. As far as prices are concerned, as compared to other markets, it was affordable and had great support for the Flemingdon community at this time of the COVID 19. I acknowledge and appreciate this effort and support
  • I discovered a variety of fruits and vegetables, however, I personally purchased green chillies, capsicum, rainbow chard, zucchini, cauliflower, spinach, cilantro, tomatoes, blueberries and blackberries. Sunflowers were free for every visitor
  • I noticed COVID 19 protocols were being practiced, for instance, wearing a mask, social distancing and hand sanitizer facility was offered onsite
  • I discovered and noticed that Flemo Farmer's Market was environment friendly even it was mentioned in the flyer that brings your bags. Every fruit and vegetable were delivered in paper bags
  • Flemo Farmer's Market was a great way to meet with the community ambassadors and support workers. Today, I met with Viji Pal, Aqeela, Rukhsana Athar, and other community representatives for the first time. I noticed the sense of belongingness, networking and connectedness at this time of the COVID 19
  • This Flemo Farmer's market proffers me a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction. I am hooked with the spirit, freshness, and locally grown organic food and planning to buy weekly groceries of fruits and vegetables from Flemo Farmer's Market. I do support and appreciate the volunteers and their efforts (they are the real heroes of the community)
  • Flemo Farmer's Market is a great way to teach children a variety of skills and techniques, for instance, children may learn how to follow COVID 19 protocols, meet n greet, how networking works, helping their parents, choose their own fruits and vegetables, how to select and buy groceries, how to calculate and pay money (my daughter was engaged with the money all time). Personally, I do take my children to shop and teach them a variety of skills onsite
  • This is my journey with the Flemo Farmer's Market, find local farmer markets in your community and support them is the thought of the day
