Diverse Caregivers Access Project (DCAP)

Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of the Diverse Caregivers Access Project (DCAP) facilitated by Davina Hang, coordinated by Abdul Rashid Athar and led by Stephanie Conant. I was part of the project as a participant and a note-taker. I recognize and comprehend the DCAP project for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Diverse caregivers access project was organized and funded by Woodgreen and powered by the Centre for ageing + brain health innovation. It was 4 sessions and well facilitated and coordinated with a variety of activities and videos. Every session commenced with the following steps such as:

    • Everybody introduced themselves to the group
    • Attendees mentioned purposes and why are they here for the session. A variety of pieces mentioned by the attendees such as someone taking care of an aunt, father, husband, family members and someone was a caregiver with dementia and forgetfulness issues
    • Video calling guidelines were discussed
    • Guidelines and privacy/confidentiality were explained
    • Land acknowledgement for Toronto by Davina Hang
    • Our commitment to caregivers statement was described to the attendees

    • Everyone shared their emotions and feelings towards the session
  • The taken insight and learning from the sessions were:
  • Practice CARER
  • What is the meaning of caregiving?
  • Who needs caregiving?
  • What are the challenges?
  • What are your caregiving experiences?
  • Solution finding videos were shared
  • Caregiver's perspectives were shared
  • What are the redirecting activities?
  • Self-care breaks
  • How to overcome language barriers?
  • How to take care of yourself?
  • What are the different ways to get informed?
  • Access caregivers resources
  • Get involved
  • This was my incredible journey with Diverse Caregivers Access Project (DCAP). Find training, sessions, project or webinars that will soothes your professional, personal, social and emotional need, is the thought of the day
