Yogurt

Today I am grateful for this incredible food called "Yogurt". It has its own significance and value in day-to-day life. Yogurt is also called curd or dahi. Its benefits are beyond explanation. Nowadays, yogurt is prepared commercially and available in packets however I do prefer and prepare fresh and organic yogurt at home. You may find a variety of YouTube videos to make yogurt. Nowadays yogurt maker is available in superstores. I appreciate and recognize its importance for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Yogurt is high in calcium, protein, vitamins and probiotics - live culture. It is profoundly advantageous for bones, teeth, skin and overall health. It helps digestion
  • Nowadays yogurt is available in a variety of flavours, qualities and aromas, for instance, plain, organic, vanilla flavour, strawberry flavour, full cream, greek or skim. People purchase and use according to their needs and health conditions
  • Yogurt is consumed or used in a variety of ways, such as:
    • In my childhood, I used to eat yogurt with added white sugar (it's extremely delicious)
    • Lassi a traditional drink is made with yogurt. Sweet lassi is made with yogurt+milk+sugar with added butter and an extra layer of malai
    • Salty lassi or chhach is made with yogurt+water+salt. It is highly recommended in summer or warm days
    • Karhi is cooked with salty lassi with added besan and other spices
    • A variety of sauces and gravies prepared with yogurts, such as raita, sauce with mayo or mustard, cumin or zeera raita, yogurt salad
    • Plain yogurt is consumed with mutton pulao, matter pulao, vegetable rice, plain rice and I witnessed that plain yogurt is eaten with zarda
    • Yogurt is the main ingredient of a variety of cuisines, for example, tandoori chicken, pulao, qorma, white qorma, mail boti, Behari boti and undoubtedly substituted by tomatoes
    • Nowadays frozen yogurt and yogurt ice cream are available in the market. Its low fat and a great way to substitute cream
  • Yogurt is beneficial for the skin. It removes dryness and keeps the skin shiny and smooth. Honey and turmeric are added to the yogurt and this mask is perfect for the outer skin
  • I personally use yogurt for hairs with added olive oil, egg yolk, amla and sekakai. It keeps hair shiny, silky and smooth. It also helps to remove dandruff and itching from the scalp
  • A variety of rituals are attached to the yogurt, for instance, before leaving for a journey, people usually eat few spoons of yogurt. Still, in a few regions of the world, yogurt is a full meal. Iranian, Afghani and Turkish communities have yogurt on their dinner table every day
  • This is my journey with yogurt. How do you utilize or consume yogurt is the question of the day
