I am grateful for being part of the TRIEC mentoring partnership since the start of 2021. Today I am thankful for attending a workshop titled "Helping mentees communicate their value to potential employers". This training session was offered by Chloe Roussel who is the director of communication and engagement at the Canadian Research Data Centre Network. I appreciate and recognize today's workshop and its significance for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Sine pandemic, TRIEC offers workshops and training sessions for mentors over the zoom. These sessions are highly convenient and comfortable to join at this time of the COVID 19 pandemic while professional gatherings are banned. Virtual mode is the safest way to connect professionally
  • No need to travel or drive, no need to be formally dressed up, you merely need to monitor internet connectivity for the flow of training or workshop
  • These training sessions are meant to strengthen the expertise and skills of a motor to be more operative, productive and supportive to the mentee
  • Training sessions are free of cost for the mentor. It is highly cost-effective and huge financial support to the mentor at this time of the COVID 19
  • Personally, I discovered and learned that this training broadens the horizon of the knowledge and helps to further develop professionally. It was a great source of networking to connect with other professionals
  • This training offered a sense of achievement and accomplishment. It bred a sense of success and fulfilment at the end
  • The taken insight and wisdom from the workshop and the key areas of discussion included:

    • Mentoring tools

    • Mentoring tips, for instance, go across platforms, mock interview, place the R in STAR, ask for a show and answer with "always" and "24 hours"

    • Mentoring hacks

    • The significance of designing or outlining a personal brand

    • How to craft key messages for the interview process?
    • What are the meaningful touch-points with the employers through the entire process?
    • How to be positioning for an effective salary negotiation?
  • This is my journey with the TRIEC mentoring partnership and I am professionally evolving and advancing my partnership as a TRIEC mentor. Find some connection to develop personally, socially, spiritually or professionally is the thought of the day
