Pickle - Achar

Today I am grateful for and acknowledge the significance of pickles to soothe and tickle our taste buds. Pickles are eaten in every region around the world. Its types and flavour varied from culture to culture and territory to territory. I appreciate pickle for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • The purpose of making Pickle is to save seasonal vegetables and consume whole year-round without compromising their flavour and aroma. Pickle is a great way to preserve vegetables with added flavour
  • Pickles may be made in water, vinegar, mustard, sesame and olive oil around the world and as much as popular as fried chicken or beef burger
  • Pickles add value and heighten the flavour of the meal and it goes very well with dal chawal, vegetables, burgers and paratha or chapati
  • Pickles are easy to make but some variety needs further assistance and technicality. Sometimes it is a challenge to make a pickle, for instance, Lasode ka achar
  • Pickles are available in stores as it is produced commercially but personally, I like homemade pickles. I do make mix vegetables, lsode+green mango and lemon pickle
  • The most popular pickles in Asian regions are mango, green chillies, garlic, lasode, mixed vegetables, turnips and even potatoes
  • There are many jokes related to pickles in society, for instance, if someone demands a pickle with the meal, it means the meal is not tasty... just kidding
  • You may find pickles as savoury as lemon and as spicy as red chillies. Pickles has the potential to stimulate and please taste buds and further supports the digestion process
  • In some regions pickle is part of every single meal especially lunch. Even it is served in the wedding ceremonial dinners
  • Variety of meanings attached with the pickles for instance, if the newlywed woman wants pickle, it means good news (I witnessed in drama and movie)
  • Pickle is the blessing to excite our palate and gives satisfaction that something worthy is eaten
  • This is my journey with the pickles, what is yours? is the question of the day
