Moon

Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of the earth's only satellite called "Moon - Chand". Moon is the fifth largest in the solar system. Today's blog is not about the science behind the moon, instead focuses on the moon and its impact on our life, rituals, meanings, traditions and ceremonies linked with the moon. I recognize and comprehend the moon and its connection in a variety of ways, for instance:

  • Moon and its light are favoured around the globe regardless of culture, region, age, gender, socioeconomic status and values. It is free of cost. Moon has eclectic shadows/faces throughout the month
  • Islamic month commences with the moon sighting and ends with the moon size. Every month on the 14th of the day of the moon's birth, the moon is fully visible in its dimension, it is called a chand rat. Earth on that day glow with the light
  • A variety of celebrations depend on the moon sighting such as Ramadan starts with the moon sighting on the last day of the Shaban. Eid ul fitar depends on the moon sighting on 29 or 30 Ramadan. Haj, Eid ul Adha, Moharram, Rabul Awal and any other Islamic rituals depend on the moon sighting
  • In Hinduism, women do fast for their husband's long life and prosperity and do break after sighting the moon. Chand Grahan has distinct meanings and rituals in different cultures
  • Chand and its light is a resemblance to beauty, romance, fantasy and fiction. People do like and enjoy the light of the moon on the day of 14 after moon birth. There are many songs that highlight the significance of the moon and its impact on emotions
