Intergenerational connection between seniors and youth

Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of the virtual cooking session attended by my son Rabees and I was engaging with him all the time. The session was titled "Share a Dish - Share a Story" supported by E - Heroes, Woodgreen and The Neighbourhood Office (TNO). The session was facilitated by Viji Pal. This session was an intergenerational connection between seniors and youth, which means seniors and youth were cooking together virtually. I recognized and comprehend the importance of today's session for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Share a Dish - Share a Story is an amazing session to build a bond or connection between seniors and the youth. The most significant aspect is that youth are learning a variety of skills such as chopping, mixing, marinating, frying, saute, washing, cleaning, peeling, facilitating and engaging with the theme
  • The ingredients were halal, fresh, untouched, properly packaged and provided yesterday morning. The supplies were included onions, mint, coriander, ginger, garlic, two packets of mushroom, green chillies, green onion, India gate rice, desi ghee, oil, garam masala powder, boneless chicken, cornflour, dark soya sauce, ginger garlic paste, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, clove, bay leaves and cumin seeds
  • The dishes were prepared and cooked with seniors and youth. The cuisine was mushroom pulao and chicken chilli. The chicken was marinated, rice was soaked and all chopping and cutting were done before the session. Rabees was busy with a variety of activities and engaged
  • The session was facilitated by Viji Pal remarkably well. Viji was given instructions and Azra was shown the proper way of cooking and seniors and youth were following the instructions and cooking with her. Viji was coordinating with the chat, highlighting the cooking festivity, admitting the audience and answering every question
  • My son was highly engaging and interacting with the facilitator. I noticed and recognized the sense of belongingness and connectedness at this time of the COVID 19. There was a giggle n chuckle, happiness, joy and pleasure. This session was genuinely linked with the positive mental health and wellbeing of the youth and the seniors. The sense of accomplishment and achievement was obvious and linked with satisfaction. I noticed that my son's self-confidence was heightened and elevated at the end of the session
  • In the end, everyone shared the dish and dined with the camera on, yes virtual get-together at this time of the COVID 19. The community was connected and enjoying the feast
  • In the end, Kahoot was played that enabled and benefited the audience to understand a variety of concepts such as saturated fat. Everyone was thankful and blessed with the feast. Thank you Viji for this incredible session. The creed of the session is worth mentioning here. I do highly recommend these sessions in the community to positively and meaningfully engage our youth and seniors

  1. I really enjoying your blog about yesterday virtual cooking, all the scenes are coming in my mind. Excellent details you provided in the blob. Ma sha Allah Rabees is looking very active and full of confidence. It was a great day and my husband did all the cutting and chopping. Viji pal was an excellent MC of the sessions.
