Disability Awareness Campaign

Today I am grateful for attending an event called "Disability Awareness Campaign" organized and supported by Health Access Thorncliffe Park (HATP), Thorncliffe Park Autism Support Network and Parenting group. This campaign was skillfully and pleasingly planned and scheduled at 12 to 3 pm under the supervision of Shakhlo Sharipova at Jenner Jean Marie community centre. I appreciate and recognize today's campaign for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • The disability awareness campaign was sufficiently executed and managed with a variety of planned meaningful activities with COVID 19 protocols
  • See my ability, not disability message was prepared and presented by Thorncliffe Park Autism Support Network with the pictorial representation. The theme was "Heartfelt presentation from our parents". The poster was eye-catching, appealing and served the purpose
  • There were whiteboards for attendees to document a message to the network. I wrote, "I do believe strongly to focus on their abilities, strengths, skills and capabilities. They are special in their own unique way".  People shared their perspectives and philosophies. That writing process itself gave me a chance to think for a moment and reflect on that campaign. This activity itself is thought-provoking and stimulating the beat
  • Charity Bazar and baking sale stalls under the theme "Spread the Goodness" were onsite with a variety of baking goods such as cookies, biscuits, cakes, bread, cupcakes and other edible snacks, for instance, samosa, pakora, falafel, Turkish samosa, tamale etc. The intention was to fundraise 1000$ for the kids with exceptional needs. Personally, I enjoyed baking goods and bought tamales, samosa, falafel and Turkish samosa. All the items were aromatic, delicious and very well tickled my taste buds
  • There was a "Share the toy" drive, very well arranged and organized. This drive was for already registered participants. Parents and children were happy and delighted to have a share. The toy drives is positively linked with the wellness and wellbeing of the children. Great support at this time of the COVID 19
  • Pizza, hot chocolate and juices were offered and served for all attendees with the COVID 19 protocols. Children were elated and thankful for pizza and drinks
  • Disability Awareness Campaign was successful and I noticed and recognized the sense of belongingness and connectedness in the community. Today's campaign circulated or spread the awareness regarding disability and further enhanced the understanding of the given notion
  • COVID 19 protocols were enforced on-site such as hand sanitizer, mask and capacity were observed and regarded. All volunteers were seemed trained in customer service such as respectful to the visitors, listening and attending to the needs and demands of every person. Hats off to them
  • I do highly recommend these prompt campaigns in the community for spreading awareness. These campaigns genuinely need funders for further planning and move forward one more step
  • This is my incredible experience with the disability awareness campaign. I and children were returned with the thought and touched empathy with the awareness
