Art at the Park for kids

Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of the event called "Art at the Park for kids" in collaboration with Friends of Thorncliffe Park and facilitated by a local emerging artist who is studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD). I recognize and comprehend its importance for a variety of reasons, for instance:

  • Art at the park for kids was an outdoor artistic and creative rock painting event for neighbourhood children ages 7 to 12 and 15 children per session. There were two sessions. Session one was held for 7 to 9 years old children at 11:30 am and session two was offered for 10 to 12 years old at 2:30 to 4 pm
  • The art supplies such as paints, brushes and even rocks were supplied. Art at the park for kids event was supported by Park people. At the end of the event, art supplies were given to the attendees
  • Art at the park for kids event benefited the children to understand and discover how to paint rocks, use brushes and even how to fix a painted rock with added strokes
  • At this time of the COVID 19 pandemic, Art at the park for kids event was a sweet breeze for children to engage in a creative and artistic adventure and learn new skills. My children were happy after attending this event and I noticed it is linked with the wellness and wellbeing
  • Art at the park for kids event encouraged the children away from social media and gadgets and they have been in the open environment with fresh air and sunshine
  • COVID 19 protocols were being followed such as a set of paints and brushes for every child, wearing a mask and social distancing while painting a rock. This event helped the children to practice and follow public health guidelines
  • Snacks were offered to every child that was fresh and healthy. My children enjoyed Art at the park for kids event and they want to participate if it happens again
  • Art at the park for kids event was linked to the mental health of children. The painting itself is a calming and relaxing activity and I noticed that calmness on their faces at the end of the event. Painting a rock affects their thoughts, feelings and emotions. I do support and recommend these kinds of the event has to be organized again for the sake of the children's mental health
  • While painting a rock, helped to boost self-esteem, self-concept and further heighten confidence. Rock painting promotes eye and hand coordination and elevates fine motor skills
  • Art at the park for kids event was a zero-waste event in the park, recycling and with garbage guidelines. There were so many learning opportunities for children such as learning, understanding, adaptability and following guidelines and they learned it
  • My children enjoyed this journey and while back home they spoke about it. Find occasions and events for children to soothe their emotions and wellbeing is the thought of the day
