Today I am grateful for and appreciate the significance of the Chand rat of Eid-ul-Adha. Today is the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar and tomorrow is the Eid-ul-Adha. Today's night is called "Chand Rat" and Muslims do observe a variety of rituals/practices for enjoying the festivities around the globe for a variety of reasons, for instance:
- Chand rat or 9th Dhul-Hajjah is highly significant for Muslims around the globe. Muslims do further proceed with the Hajj rituals in Saudia Arabia and the rest of the Muslims enjoy and celebrate the festivities of this night. This night is full of blessings and Muslims do offer prayers and special azkar
- Muslims do buy an animal for sacrifice on the next day. Majority of the Muslims visit mandi on this night for purchasing an animal such as a cow, goat, lamb or camel. Those who already purchased an animal do take care of them with love and affection
- Muslim women get ready for the next day and engage with a variety of tasks at home such as preparing spices, sweet dishes, getting henna tattoos, ironing clothes for the eid prayers and deep cleaning the house
- In Canada, we have distinct festivities due to NOT buying an animal, just order the required animal to the store and they give us a date to take the meat. Yes, this night (chand rat) henna tattoos are very common, ironing clothes for the morning eid prayers, decore house, special breakfast or meal preparations, cleaning and prayers for humanity. Yes, I do call my colleagues, relatives, cousins, parents and siblings for the greetings and also share digital eid cards with them
